Privacy Policy

Chess — a local, offline-first chess game

Effective date: February 2, 2026

1. What this app does with your data

Chess is designed to work entirely offline. When you play a game, save it, resume it, or delete it, that information is written to a local database stored only on your own device. It is never uploaded, synced, or transmitted anywhere, and we — the developer — never see it, have no access to it, and have no way to see it.

2. Information we do not collect

We do not collect or store your name, email address, contacts, precise or approximate location, device identifiers, or any other personal information. The app has no account system and does not ask you to sign in.

3. Internet permission

The app requests internet access for one purpose only: to display this Privacy Policy and the About page you're reading right now, both hosted as simple web pages. No gameplay data, move history, or saved games are ever sent over that connection, and the app is fully playable with no network connection at all.

4. PGN import & export

If you choose to export a game, the app builds a plain-text PGN file on your device and hands it to the standard Android share sheet or clipboard — you decide where it goes, and we never see or receive a copy. If you import a game, you paste or select the PGN text yourself; it's read locally to set up the board and is not sent anywhere.

5. Permissions

Besides internet access (explained above), the app requests vibration access to provide haptic feedback on moves, captures, and check. Neither permission is used to collect or share any information about you.

6. No ads or third-party services

This app contains no advertising, no analytics SDKs, and no third-party tracking libraries of any kind. Nothing about how you use the app is measured, profiled, or shared with anyone.

7. Children's privacy

Since the app collects no personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children either.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the update will be posted on this page along with a new effective date. Since the app fundamentally doesn't collect data, we don't expect that to change — but we'll be transparent here if it ever does.

9. Contact
